Vol. 376 No. 7

Written Answers. - Appointment of Teacher.

66.

asked the Minister for Education the reason (a) a school (details supplied) in County Clare has been discriminated against in relation to the appointment of a permanent assistant teacher (b) the reason a letter issued from her Department on 10 August 1987 sanctioning a temporary appointment and not a permanent appointment given that rule 88 had been complied with in this school and (c) if she will make a permanent appointment forthwith to the school in question.

The reason for the temporary appointment of an assistant teacher, as authorised in the Department's letter of 10 August, was that an investigation was being made into a possible re-arrangement of the educational facilities in the area. The temporary nature of the appointment is in accordance with official practice in cases of this kind. The staffing of the school is being reviewed in the light of the reduction in enrolments since September and my Department will communicate with the reverend chairman of the board of management in the matter.
