Vol. 376 No. 7

Written Answers. - GAA Allocation.

67.

asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the enormous contribution made by the Gaelic Athletic Association to the sporting, social, cultural and economic life of our country; if, in recognition of this contribution it is her intention to make an allocation to the GAA from the national lottery reserve fund; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware of the valuable contribution which the Gaelic Athletic Association makes to the sporting, social, cultural and economic life of our country.

To date in 1987 the Gaelic Athletic Association has been allocated £89,000 in grant-aid from the national lottery. Recently the Minister of State at my Department had discussions with the Gaelic Athletic Association in relation to the activities and development projects from which the association is seeking additional funding. As soon as the final details of these proposals are received I will be happy to have the question of making an additional allocation of funds from the national lottery to the Gaelic Athletic Association further considered.
