Vol. 376 No. 10

Written Answers. - Pig Processing Facilities.

32.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food whether he is concerned at the lack of raw material for the expanding pig processing facilities already approved; and the steps, if any, he proposes to ensure an adequate supply.

Under the investment programme for the pigmeat industry, it will be essential for the promoters of new slaughtering or processing facilities to demonstrate that sufficient pig supplies will be available when the projects come on stream.

A committee, representative of my Department, the IDA, AFT and ACOT, are currently examining the question of expanding pig numbers and I expect to have their report shortly.
