Section 84 of the Road Traffic Act, 1961, provides that the Garda commissioner may make by-laws designating "appointed stands" at which licensed street service vehicles may stand for hire. The by-laws are made following consultation with the local authority concerned and with my consent. I understand that by-laws providing for an extension to the appointed stand in Drogheda referred to by the Deputy are currently being prepared by the Garda authorities.
