Vol. 376 No. 10

Written Answers. - Leitrim National School Appointment.

104.

asked the Minister for Education if she will confirm the approval given by her Department on 9 October 1987, for the appointment of an extra teacher at Gortletteragh national school, County Leitrim, with authority to start from the beginning of the school term in January 1988; and if the necessary documentation has not been completed in time, if she will make provision for the appointment of a teacher on a temporary, provisional basis until such time as the documentation has been cleared, as it has already been established to the satisfaction of her Department that the school has the requisite numbers and the appointment is in conformity with her recently announced action plan.

There is no record in my Department of approval having been given in October last for the appointment of an additional teacher at this school. The conditions governing such appointment were not fulfilled by the school at the time. An application for such appointment has recently been renewed by the school authorities and my Department will be writing shortly to the Chairman of the Board of Management in the matter.
