Vol. 376 No. 10

Written Answers. - Kerry New Schools.

101.

asked the Minister for Education the present position regarding the proposed new school for Lispole, County Kerry; and if it is included in the 1988 Estimates.

Because of the pressure on the capital available to my Department for the national schools building programme, I have not found it possible to arrange for the funding in 1988 of the proposed new national school for Lispole, County Kerry. The position remains as set out in the reply given on 23 June 1987 to the Deputy's previous question about this project.

asked the Minister for Education the present position regarding the proposed new school for Smerwick, Ballydavid, County Kerry; and if it is included in the 1988 Estimates.

Because of the pressure on the capital available to my Department for the national schools building programme, it will not be possible during the coming financial year to make provision for the new national school as proposed for Smerwick, Ballydavid, County Kerry. The position was fully explained to representatives of the school authorities at a meeting in my Department.

In view of the unsatisfactory condition of the existing school building, my Department has offered to prepare and furnish for the consideration of the school authorities an alternative plan whereby basic classroom requirements might be provided at more modest cost than the original proposal and within the current capital constraints. My Department will communicate further as soon as possible with the school authorities about the matter.

asked the Minister for Education the present position regarding the proposed new school for Castlegregory, County Kerry; and if it is included in the 1988 Estimates.

Tender documentation has been prepared for the proposed new national school for Castlegregory, County Kerry. Because, however, of the pressure on the capital available to my Department for the national schools building programme, I have not found it possible to arrange for the funding of this project in 1988 and, accordingly, the invitation of tenders in this case must be further deferred.
