Vol. 377 No. 1

Written Answers. - Ashbourne Community School.

304.

asked the Minister for Education regarding the proposed Ashbourne community school, County Meath if she will give (i) the current owner(s) of the 14.4 acres of land purchased by her Department for it (ii) the current trustee(s) of the said lands (iii) the income, if any, which has been derived to date from lettings or otherwise of the said lands since purchased by her Department in June 1985 (iv) the intended trustee(s) of the lands when/if the school building programme is completed (v) whether or not she intends also to build a first-level school Bunscoil Lán-Ghaelach on these lands (vi) if (v) is positively confirmed, the factors taken into account and the parties consulted by her Department when assigning a first-level school to lands originally acquired for second-level purposes (vii) if (v) is positively confirmed, the approximate acreage of grounds currently being apportioned to each school (viii) if (v) is positively confirmed, whether or not each school shall have separate, independent and autonomous amenities and facilities, playgrounds, entrances, and car parks within agreed boundaries (ix) if (v) is positively confirmed, whether ownership of the entire lands shall be vested in one set of trustees or if there shall be separate sets of trustees for the separate school sites and (x) if she will make a statement on the progress to date of the above building project(s) the stage at which each currently rests, the estimated dates of completion of the remaining stages, the estimated date(s) of opening of the school(s); and the amount of progress made since March 1987.

(i) The Minister for Education. (ii) So far no trustees have been appointed. (iii) No payment has been received to date. (iv) It is intended that the trustees will be as specified in the standard deed of trust for community schools. (v) Due to Meath County Council's decision to route the Ashbourne by-pass through part of the school site the implications of the need to restrict the site are still under consideration in my Department. However, the rate at which both projects may proceed will depend on the availability of capital resources and my Department's other commitments and priorities.

The possibility that part of the proposed community school site may be available for a new first-level school building for the Bunscoil Lán-Ghaelach has not as yet been established.

As a consequence I am not in a position to deal with parts (vi) to (x) of the Deputy's question in so far as they relate to the planning of a new building at Ashbourne, County Meath, for the Bunscoil Lán-Ghaelach.
