Vol. 377 No. 2

Written Answers. - Capital Grants.

86.

asked the Minister for Labour if he has any plans to make capital grants available to statutory or voluntary bodies for the provision of sporting and recreational facilities including sports halls, athletics tracks and swimming pools; where the funds are to be drawn from; if his Department has received any applications for funding under the above headings from County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have no plans to make capital grants available to statutory or voluntary bodies for the provision of sports and recreational facilities.

In certain circumstances, community bodies may avail of the assistance provided by FÁS under the Community Youth Training Programme to undertake such projects. In addition, the Social Employment Scheme also run by FÁS may be availed of to undertake minor repair and routine maintenance on existing facilities.

A decision on the allocation of funds for a specific project is a matter for FÁS and I would suggest that the Deputy contact FÁS direct for details of projects.
