andMr. Nealon asked the Taoiseach if his Department pay grants to members of the public, if so, the amount of each such grant approved for payment, but unpaid as of 31 December 1987; and the equivalent figure for 31 December 1986.

Department of the Taoiseach

There were no grants to members of the public as distinct from cultural organisations approved but unpaid from the Vote of the Department of the Taoiseach at either 31 December 1987 or 31 December 1986.

Roinn na Gaeltachta

Íocann mo Roinnse deontais éagsúla leis an bpobal agus ar 31 Nollaig 1987 bhí 91 dheontas idir £45 agus £6,500 faoi Achtanna na dTithe (Gaeltacht) a bhí ceadaithe le híoc ach nach raibh íoctha ar an dáta sin. Ba é luach iomlán na ndeontas sin ná £135,729 i gcomparáid le £8,780 ar 31 Nollaig 1986.

andMr. Nealon asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if his Department pay grants to members of the public, if so, the amount of each such grant approved for payment, but unpaid as of 31 December 1987; and the equivalent figure for 31 December 1986.

The Department of Foreign Affairs, on the advice of the Cultural Relations Committee, grant assistance to cultural and artistic projects likely to enhance Ireland's image abroad and develop cultural relations with other countries. Grants are paid on receipt of evidence of expenditure by the grantees.

Separate schedules of grants approved but unpaid as of 31 December 1987 and 31 December 1986 are attached.

My Department pay grants to members of the public out of the Western Development Fund. One grant for the sum of £851 — approved for payment on 23 December 1987 — had not been paid by 31 December 1987.

No such grant remained unpaid at 31 December 1986.
