Vol. 377 No. 4

Written Answers. - County Wexford National School.

92.

asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the fact that the school buildings at Glenbrien national school, County Wexford are totally inadequate for the number of pupils enrolled, and are draughty, expensive to heat and badly lit; and if she will indicate when a new school will be provided at this location.

I am aware that conditions in Glenbrien national school, County Wexford are not satisfactory and my Department have agreed in principle to grant-aid the provision of a new school building. Because of the pressures on my Department's capital allocation in 1988 for the national schools building programme, I am not in a position to approve the placing of the contract for the new school as proposed. I have asked my Department's professional advisers to examine the question of whether any improvements should be carried out to the existing school pending the provision of the new building. In view of the Deputy's interest in the matter I will advise him of developments in due course.
