Vol. 377 No. 6

Written Answers - Inner City Training Programmes.

183.

asked the Minister for Labour the specific training programmes, if any, which are planned for the people of Dublin inner city area in general, including East Wall, the city centre and North Wall to provide them with the necessary skills to obtain employment in (a) the construction work at the Customs House Dock site, Dublin 1 and (b) in the various enterprises which are planned for the site; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The programme envisaged by the Deputy would be a matter for FAS to devise and implement in the light of the needs identified by them.

However, before FÁS was established, I had arranged for the NMS office in D'Olier House to be the central point of contact between employers and job seekers for employment opportunities arising in the Custom House Docks development.

I had also asked for special attention to be paid by the Jervis Street training centre to the training that will be needed for the jobs coming on stream so that inner city people will be in a better position to avail themselves of these job opportunities.

I can assure the Deputy that FÁS will now pursue these matters.
