Vol. 377 No. 6

Written Answers - Remedial Teacher Appointment.

223.

asked the Minister for Education if approval will now be given for a remedial teacher for a school (details supplied) in Dublin 24 following on the representations received on behalf of the staff of this school; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

224.

asked the Minister for Education if she will sanction the appointment of a remedial teacher for a school (details supplied) in Dublin 24 given that 74 students require such training; and if she will have regard to the high level of unemployment and social deprivation that exists in this particular area in making her decision.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 223 and 224 together.

Applications of schools for remedial teaching posts are processed in the Department and posts are allocated in accordance with a priority of educational need. The number of remedial posts to be sanctioned in any school year would depend on the financial resources available to the Department.

This application will be considered in conjunction with those on hand in the light of the availability of such posts in the future.
