Vol. 377 No. 6

Written Answers - Orthodontic Treatment.

34.

asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the long delay for patients awaiting orthodontic treatment in the Western Health Board area; and the action he proposes to take to deal with this serious problem.

I am aware that delays are being experienced by patients awaiting orthodontic treatment in the Western Health Board. I have been informed by the board that the delays are primarily due to the vacant post of consultant orthodontist which the board has been unable to fill. However, the Local Appointments Commission recently re-advertised the post and is in the process of setting up an interview board. When this post is filled, the waiting time for orthodontic treatment should be reduced.
