Vol. 377 No. 7

Written Answers. - Transfer of Handicapped Person to Cheeverstown House.

80.

asked the Minister for Health having regard to the fact that the family of a person (details supplied) in County Dublin were visited by a representative of the Eastern Health Board and informed that their daughter would be transferred from St. Joseph's mental handicap unit at St. Ita's Hospital, Portrane, County Dublin to Cheeverstown House, Dublin 12, on a particular day, if he will give the reason this did not happen; if he will agree that great stress was caused to both this child and her family; and if he will take steps to ensure that she is transferred as agreed to Cheeverstown House.

The admission of people with a mental handicap from St. Ita's Hospital to Cheeverstown House is a matter for the Eastern Health Board. However, I have made inquiries about this case and I understand that agreement has been reached between the health board and Cheeverstown House regarding a further intake of people from St. Ita's Hospital. This person will be assessed for transfer to Cheeverstown House. I also understand that the matter has been discussed by the Programme Manager, Eastern Health Board with this person's parents.
