Vol. 378 No. 6

Written Answers. - Orthopaedic Consultant Appointment.

264.

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware that a person (details supplied) in Dublin 3 had an appointment made in October, 1987, to see an orthopaedic consultant in the Mater Hospital, Dublin 7, that the appointment has now been cancelled due to the early retirement of the consultant and a further appointment made for 16 June, 1988 for a hip replacement operation, his views on whether this is satisfactory; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

267.

asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the fact that there are chronic delays/backlog of up to one year for appointments in the orthopaedic department in the Mater Hospital, Dublin 7 following the early retirement of a consultant there, including persons requiring serious operations; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I wish to take Questions Nos. 264 and 267 together. I have brought the situation referred to by the Deputy to the attention of the authorities in the Mater Hospital. They have assured me that this matter will be reviewed as a matter of urgency. I will communicate with the Deputy as soon as this review has been completed.
