Vol. 378 No. 6

Written Answers. - Deserted Spouse Allowance.

44.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the cost of granting a deserted spouse allowance to husbands who have been deserted by their wives and who have care of dependent children on the same basis as the current deserted wives allowance is calculated.

It is tentatively estimated that the cost of granting a deserted spouse's allowance to husbands on the same basis as the current deserted wife's scheme would be of the order of £14 million in a full year at current rates of payment.
