asked the Minister for Social Welfare the total number of people who have had their entitlement to social welfare maternity benefit/allowance withdrawn because of the changes in the contribution conditions for the period 1 January, 1988 to 31 January, 1988.

The changed contribution conditions apply to new claimants only. Accordingly nobody receiving payment of benefit on 1 January 1988 had their payments terminated.

47.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of people in receipt of (i) disability benefit (ii) unemployment benefit and (iii) unemployment assistance for the years 1986-87.

The numbers in receipt of the payments mentioned by the Deputy at 31 December in each year are as follows:—
