Vol. 378 No. 10

Written Answers. - Lottery Funds Allocation.

46.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will consider making funds available from the national lottery for local environmental campaigns.

In my reply to Questions Nos. 27 and 76 of 25 November 1987, I indicated in general terms the type of amenity projects of a capital nature which may be assisted from lottery funds. While local environmental campaigns involving non-capital expenditure would not, as such, qualify for assistance, projects linked to local environmental campaigns are open for consideration.

I am, of course, encouraging local authorities to develop sustained local environmental campaigns in 1988, assisted as far as possible by sponsorship from the local business and commercial sector.
