Vol. 378 No. 10

Written Answers. - Housing Estates Completion.

58.

asked the Minister for the Environment if it is his intention to introduce legislation to tackle the problem of unfinished building estates throughout the country.

122.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he has any plans to amend legislation to make more effective the powers local authorities have in relation to satisfactory completion and the bringing up to a proper standard of housing estates; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 58 and 122 together. My Department have completed a survey of unfinished estates from returns furnished by the planning authorities. The results are being examined to see what measures need to be taken to minimise the problem. I do not anticipate at this stage that amending legislation will be required.
