Vol. 379 No. 1

Written Answers. - Advance Factory Capacity.

106.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the present advance factory capacity in this country; his proposals in respect of this capacity; his policy on the building of advance factories generally; and his policy on the giving of building grants when there are factories at present lying empty.

I am informed by the Industrial Development Authority that their promotable advance factory capacity stood at two million sq. ft. approximately at the end of 1987. This capacity reflects the on-going reduction in the amount of excess factory space, in line with industrial policy objectives.

At the present time, it is not intended to add to the current overall stock of advance factories. Promoters are encouraged to avail of vacant factory space whenever possible. The provision of building grants only arises where necessary to secure a particular project.
