Vol. 379 No. 2

Written Answers. - County Dublin Television Reception.

57.

asked the Minister for Communications if his attention has been drawn to the severe interference being caused to television reception in the Brittas, Rathcoole, and Tallaght areas of County Dublin; if he has investigated this matter; if he has identified the source of the interference; the action he proposes to take; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Statutory responsibility for the investigation and detection of interference to television reception rests with RTE. RTE advise that they have one current complaint of interference to television reception in the areas in question. Their investigations into the complaint are continuing but to date they have found no evidence of direct interference to RTE television reception. They have found that the main complaint relates to reception of UK television transmissions which are of the weak fringe variety. They are therefore vulnerable to interference from authorised users of the frequency spectrum and other sources. RTE will investigate specific cases of reception difficulties on receipt of the names and addresses concerned.
