asked the Minister for Education in relation to the new VPT courses recently announced by her the percentage of these programmes which will be devoted to (i) the teaching of basic educational skills that is, literacy, numeracy and oral competence and (ii) the teaching of vocational and work experience type skills and general preparation for life.

As I indicated in my statement to the House last Wednesday the new programme is in the form of a proposal to Government and consequently it is not possible at this stage to give the detailed information sought by the Deputy.
