Vol. 379 No. 6

Written Answers. - Reintroduction of Drugs in GMS.

240.

asked the Minister for Health if he will consider the reintroduction of the drugs methrodone and perganon to the medical card list in view of their importance in the treatment of women with infertility problems; if he will make a statement on the reason for the original withdrawal of these drugs; and the level of representations for their reinstatement.

I presume that the Deputy's question refers to the drugs metrodin and pergonal. These drugs have never been included on the list of items which are reimbursable on the general medical services scheme, as they are considered to be suitable only for hospital administration under the direct supervision of a specialist with adequate facilities for precise hormone monitoring.

The level of representations for their inclusion under the scheme has been negligible.
