I am informed by the Garda authorities that 80 incidents of the type referred to in the question were reported in the Dublin Metropolitan Area during the year ended 31 March 1988. These were all fully investigated by the Garda and criminal charges were preferred in 16 cases. The Garda authorities assure me that special attention is being given to the bus routes where assaults are a particular problem and the gardaí are liaising with Bus Átha Cliath and with local community representatives with a view to alleviating the problem.
