Vol. 379 No. 6

Written Answers. - Assaults on Women or Boys.

77.

asked the Minister for Justice if he intends introducing legislation to allow civil proceedings in respect of aggravated assaults on women or on boys under 14 years.

There is no bar to the institution of civil proceedings in respect of aggravated assaults on women or on boys under 14 years. Provisions in the Offences Against the Person Act, 1861, which restricted the extent to which civil proceedings could be taken in such cases were repealed by the Criminal Justice Act, 1951.
