As indicated in my reply to questions on 18 February, it is planned to hold a Garda recruitment competition this year. New educational standards and recruitment procedures are being introduced for the competition and recruits from it will undergo a new training programme. I expect that details of the competition, including the new entry requirements, will be announced within the next month or so. It will then be open to any intending applicant who meets the entry requirements to apply.
