asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if, in view of the Gilliland case he has any proposals for legislation to rectify the 1957 European Convention on Extradition.
Written Answers. - Extradition Convention.
36.
The convention to which the Deputy refers is a Council of Europe multilateral convention to which 18 other European countries are also parties. The convention entered into force for Ireland on 31 July 1966. Its terms govern Ireland's extradition arrangements with these countries.
In view of the decision of the Supreme Court in the Gilliland case, the question of obtaining Dáil approval of the terms of the convention is under consideration.
