Vol. 380 No. 3

Written Answers. - County Dublin Leisure Co-operative.

73.

asked the Minister for Education her views on whether her Department owe the Ballyfermot Leisure Co-Operative Limited (details supplied) in Dublin 10 in excess of £9,000 in respect of professional fees; if her attention has been drawn to the co-operative's financial difficulties; and if the money will now be paid.

To date my Department has paid Ballyfermot Leisure Co-Operative Ltd. a total grant amount as follows:

£

1. Construction cost and fees

418,638

2. Equipment Grant

49,135

Total

467,773

The last payment was issued on 6 January 1988 totalling £48,788 as follows:

Construction costs and fees

35,296

Equipment grant balance

13,492

This grant balance was paid on presentation by the project organisers of the builders final account and documentation in relation to professional fees.

A further claim for payment in relation to professional fees (detailing the VAT component) was submitted on 22 March 1988 with a further update on 19 April 1988. This claim is currently being processed within my Department and a letter will issue to the project organisers shortly, in relation to any payments due.

Representations have been received setting out the financial position of the sport and leisure centre. However, while I sympathise with Ballyfermot Leisure Co-operative Ltd., in view of the considerable sum already allocated for the construction of the centre and many other demands for assistance, it is not possible for me to sanction a further grant in respect of this project.

I must also state that the terms of the scheme preclude the payment of grants in relation to the running costs of the centre or in relation to debts incurred on the project.
