Vol. 380 No. 5

Written Answers. - Army Horses.

13.

asked the Minister for Defence the amount of finance being made available for the purchase of horses for the Army jumping team in 1988; the number of international appearances being made by the Army team in 1988; and the corresponding appearances made in 1987.

Limerick West): There is no provision in the 1988 Defence Estimate for the purchase of horses for the Army Equitation School. I am satisfied, however, that the number of horses purchased for the school during the last few years is more than sufficient for their present requirements.

It is envisaged that Army teams will attend ten international shows and seven international horse trials in 1988. Army teams attended 19 international shows and ten international horse trials in 1987. The question of attendance at the Olympic Games will, of course, arise later this year.
