Vol. 380 No. 6

Written Answers. - Sale of Portion of Statue.

55.

asked the Minister for Finance if his attention has been drawn to the fact that a firm of auctioneers (details supplied) in London have recently sold for the sum of £11,000 the portion of a statue which previously was located in College Green, Dublin 2 and under the jurisdiction of the Office of Public Works; if, in respect of that sale he will indicate (1) when the portion of the statue was exported from the State, (2) the Minister or person who gave authority for such exportation (3) the person to whom the portion of the statue was sold and (4) the sum of money which was agreed upon between the purchaser and the vendor acting on behalf of the State; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Commissioners of Public Works had no involvement whatsoever with the portion of the statue in question. The Deputy may wish to take the matter up with Dublin Corporation who are familiar with the details involved.
