Vol. 380 No. 7

Written Answers. - Birmingham Six.

28.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he has received information regarding new evidence of alleged collusion between witnesses in the Birmingham Six case; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I presume that the evidence to which the Deputy refers is that brought forward by Mr. Chris Mullen, MP in the House of Commons on 16 February 1988. Mr. Mullen subsequently wrote to the Commissioner of the City of London Police outlining the new evidence. A copy of this letter and enclosures was provided by Mr. Mullen to the Irish Government.

As the Deputy is no doubt aware, a police investigation is under way into the information provided by Mr. Mullen. The Irish Government will follow closely developments in relation to this investigation.
