Vol. 380 No. 7

Written Answers. - Cable Television.

79.

asked the Minister for Communications when the reduction in the Government levy on cable television services will be reflected in the price paid by consumers.

The question of passing on the benefit of the reduction in the licence fee payable by cable operators to their subscribers is a matter for the companies themselves. My main reason for reducing the fee was to provide a modest financial stimulus to the industry to encourage investment in upgrading systems. In the long term subscribers to cable systems will benefit in receiving better quality and additional services.
