Vol. 380 No. 7

Written Answers. - N4 By-Pass.

97.

asked the Minister for the Environment when it is expected that the Chapelizod-Lucan, County Dublin by-pass on the N4 will be open to vehicular traffic, with particular reference to the section between Ballyowen and Leixlip, County Kildare; if he is in a position to sanction the plans in respect of the section between Leixlip and Kilcock, to coincide with the opening of the Ballyowen-Leixlip section; if his attention has been drawn to the serious traffic jams and motoring hazards likely to be caused unless the Leixlip-Kilcock section is approved without delay; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Work on the Chapelizod by-pass is expected to be completed towards the end of 1989. The Lucan by-pass is expected to be completed in August 1988. With regard to the latter part of the question, I presume that the Deputy is referring to the proposals for the Leixlip-Kilcock motorway scheme. I will give my decision on Kildare County Council's application for approval to this scheme shortly.
