Vol. 380 No. 9

Written Answers. - Decentralisation.

45.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will make a statement on the contents of a submission from a person (details supplied) in Dublin 7 concerning decentralisation.

On the general issues, your constituent can be assured the decentralised sections will be well capable of discharging their functions efficiently and cost-effectively in their new locations. The financial, social and economic aspects of the programme have all been carefully considered, and the Government is satisfied that the net benefits will be considerable.

Regarding your constituent's personal position, the intention is that staff from the sections transferring, who do not wish to move to the designated centres, will be replaced by volunteers prepared to relocate. It is then expected that the staff remaining in Dublin will be redeployed to other positions in the capital.
