Vol. 380 No. 10

Written Answers. - County Wicklow Community College Sports Complex.

163.

asked the Minister for Education if she will clarify the confusion surrounding the staffing of the sports complex at St. Thomas' community college, Bray, County Wicklow, which is at present operating with the help of a temporary social employment scheme worker and which was promised two staff members on a contract, self-financing basis by the last Government because of the valuable and popular nature of the facilities offered to families in the Bray area by the sports complex.

In April 1986 a manager and assistant manager-caretaker were appointed for the sports hall at St. Thomas' community college, Bray on a temporary basis. In May 1987 the assistant manager-caretaker resigned. The terms of the embargo on recruitment in the public service have precluded my Department from sanctioning the filling of this vacancy by Town of Bray VEC. However, my Department is at present examining the case further in the light of detailed financial information about the operation of the centre recently received from the VEC.
