Vol. 381 No. 1

Written Answers. - National Lottery Funds.

94.

asked the Minister for Education if she will give details of all national lottery moneys which have been received by her Department; if she will give details of the allocation of these funds by her Department; and the commitments entered into in regard to future disbursement.

The Deputy is referred to the relevant press releases of last November which detailed the extent and composition of the national lottery moneys allocated to my Department. Compilation of the information requested regarding the allocation of these funds would divert staff to an unacceptable extent from essential duties associated with the administration of the relevant schemes.

Comment relating to commitments over and above those detailed in the press releases regarding disbursement of funds would be inappropriate at this stage as the various building programmes are, for the most part, at early stages of planning.

95.

asked the Minister for Education (a) the number of applications for grant-aid under the national lottery which she received from County Meath, (b) the names of the applicants, (c) the number which have been successful in receiving an allocation, (d) the amount received by each of the successful applicants and (e) the criteria which are used in making the decision.

I am not prepared to authorise the compilation of the kind of information requested by the Deputy at (a), (b), (c) and (d) as it would divert staff to an unacceptable extent from essential duties associated with the administration of the various schemes in question.

As regards part (e) of the Deputy's question, applications must comply with the conditions of the relevant schemes. The limit on the total funds is such that grant-aid cannot be presumed in respect of any application.

The projects are selected by reference to a variety of criteria which includes, (i) degree of local commitment as evidenced by success in local fund-raising; (ii) the viability and worth of the projects involved; (iii) social and demographic factors.

96.

asked the Minister for Education if money has been provided from the national lottery for the community centre at Kilcloon, County Meath; or if any other grants are being made available from her Department for this purpose.

The scheme that would apply in this case is the capital grant scheme for the provision of recreational facilities. No formal application has been received in respect of this project.
