Written Answers. - Supplementary Welfare Allowance Scheme Eligibility.

13.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason young people on Teamwork schemes are unable to obtain payments under the supplementary welfare allowance scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Under legislation governing the supplementary welfare allowance scheme persons in remunerative full time employment are debarred from receiving assistance, except in cases of urgency. Persons engaged on Teamwork projects are considered to be in full time employment and, subject to the exception mentioned, are ineligible for assistance under the scheme.
