Vol. 381 No. 4

Written Answers. - Border Areas Programme.

45.

asked the Minister for Finance when funding from the EC Council Regulation 36337/85 of 17 December 1985 for Border areas will be made available for development of the Border region.

52.

asked the Minister for Finance if he has any plans in his Department to make a financial allocation to Drogheda Corporation, County Louth for work at the Millmount complex from the special Border Area Programme Fund; the reason his Department have to date excluded Drogheda, and in particular this project; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that this project has great potential as a major tourist attraction in the development of the Boyne Valley; if application has been made to him for finance; when he will decide the allocation; if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that Drogheda Corporation do not have the funds to provide for a public toilet for the use of visitors at Millmount; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 52 and 45 together.

The steering committee for the Border areas programme is due to meet in approximately three weeks' time, and the list of tourism projects to be funded under the programme should be made known shortly afterwards. The completion of the Millmount complex is expected to be included in that list. Work already carried our on the Millmount complex was included in the original Border areas programme, so it is not correct to suggest that Drogheda has been excluded.
