asked the Minister for Energy if he will consider amending the Turf Development Act of 1981 in order that payment of grants for private bog development will be made directly by his Department, rather than through Bord na Móna; if, pending any such change he will require Bord na Móna to publish in its annual report a list of those who received grants and the amounts involved; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The private bog grant scheme which came into operation under the Turf Development Act, 1981, has been terminated with effect from 13 October 1987. The work remaining to be done concerns the administration of applications received prior to that date. I am confident that Bord na Móna has the necessary competence to complete this task. I cannot see that the publication of the information requested by the Deputy would serve any useful purpose and I do not propose therefore to request Bord na Móna to publish such data.
