Vol. 381 No. 6

Written Answers. - Income Tax Payment.

37.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason payment for income tax for a person (details supplied) in County Wexford was mislaid in the Collector-General's Office; and in view of same, if interest charges and poundage fees will be waived.

I have been informed by the Revenue Commissioners that there is no record in the Collector-General's Office of the receipt of a cheque for the amount in question and accordingly there does not appear to them to be any basis for the assertion that the cheque was mislaid. If the taxpayer can furnish evidence in support of his assertion, the commissioners will arrange a further investigation into the matter.

Under the incentive scheme introduced in this year's Finance Act, the interest charge of £66 will not have to be paid by the taxpayer if all the taxes and levies now due are paid by him not later than 30 September 1988.
