Vol. 381 No. 6

Written Answers. - Transfer of Land.

51.

asked the Minister for Energy the conditions under which 679 hectares of cutaway raised bog have been acquired by the forestry service from Bord na Móna.

Pursuant to a Government decision of July 1987, that Bord na Móna cutaway bogs which are suitable for afforestation be transferred to the Forest Service, the service have gone into occupation of approximately 1,000 hectares (of which 679 hectares comprises part of the Bog of Allen).

The take-over of these lands is on the basis of long-term leasing arrangements between Bord na Móna and the Forest Service, final details of which are still being negotiated. It would not be in the interest of either of the two organisations concerned to reveal the terms on which commercial transactions of this kind are concluded.
