asked the Minister for Energy the way in which the environmental and amenity consequences of Coillte Teoranta operations are to be arbitrated; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Coillte Teoranta will be subject, in the same way as any other company, to existing environmental and amenity legislation. In addition, it will have the duty, under section 13 (1) (c) of the Forestry Bill, 1988, to have regard to environmental and amenity aspects in conducting its business. Under section 38 of the Bill, the company must comply with written directions given by the Minister in regard to policy and other specified matters relating to its activities.
