Vol. 381 No. 8

Written Answers. - Sewer Pipie Repairs.

157.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he has satisfied himself that it is equitable to require private householders to pay the cost of repairing sewer pipes under the public roadway.

Under existing legislation, a sanitary authority is responsible for the provision and maintenance of sewers whereas householders are responsible for the drains connecting their premises to the public sewer. I am aware that this situation may cause difficulties for householders and I have the legislation under review at present to determine what action may be appropriate in the circumstances.
