Vol. 381 No. 8

Written Answers. - Medicines Refund Scheme.

200.

asked the Minister for Health if it is necessary for a person (details supplied) in Dublin 3 to wait six to ten weeks before obtaining payments under the medicines refund scheme each month as this is causing hardship to his family; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The question of the payment of individual claims under the cost of drugs refund scheme is the responsibility of the chief executive officer of the appropriate health board. Accordingly, in this instance, the Deputy's question has been referred to the Chief Executive Officer, Eastern Health Board, with a request that he examine the matter and reply directly to the Deputy as a matter of urgency.

201.

asked the Minister for Health the average length of time before payments are made to applicants on the medicines refund scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The average length of time between receipt of a claim and the issue of payment is generally some three to four weeks.
