asked the Minister for the Environment if he will make a statement on his policy towards the future provision of sheltered accommodation for the elderly by local housing authorities.

The planning and initiation of local authority housing schemes, including accommodation for the elderly, is a matter for individual housing authorities, subject to compliance with my Department's guidelines on the procedures to be followed and the standards to be applied for such schemes and the availability of capital.
