Vol. 381 No. 8

Written Answers. - Darndale (Dublin) Refurbishment Project.

23.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will take the necessary steps to enable Dublin Corporation to insist on a reasonable proportion of local labour employment in phase II of Darndale refurbishment project Dublin 7, when the contract is put to tender, especially in view of the high unemployment rate in the area and the poor response of the contractor to local employment during phase I; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The question of employing local labour is a matter for Dublin Corporation, who are responsible for the administration of the contract. Local authorities, including Dublin Corporation, normally include a clause in their contracts providing for the recruitment of workers through the local offices of the National Manpower Service.
