Vol. 381 No. 8

Written Answers. - Dublin County Council Funding.

24.

asked the Minister for the Environment the amount of the rates support grant provided to Dublin County Council for the years 1984 to 1987 inclusive and the amount provided for 1988; and if he will make a statement on the trend indicated.

The rate support grants provided to Dublin County Council for the years 1984 to 1987 inclusive and the allocations for 1988 are set out in a tabular statement which I propose to have circulated in the Official Report. While the overall trend over the period reflects curtailment of local authority expenditure like that of public expenditure generally, Dublin County Council still receives the largest share nationally of rate support grant funding after Dublin Corporation. This amounts to 13.2 per cent of the total available for rate support grants in 1988.

Rate Support Grants — Dublin County Council

1984

1985

1986

£41,153,731

£42,236,064

£39,462,774

1987

1988

34,081,757

£29,624,500

The figure quoted for 1988 is an initial one. The initial allocations for all local authorities will fall to be adjusted shortly to reflect the elimination of certain loan charges which are no longer required to be paid by the local authorities.
