Vol. 381 No. 8

Written Answers. - Super-Levy Liability.

100.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the total number of gallons of milk in respect of which super-levy liabilities arose in the milk marketing year ending 31 March 1988; the amount of such liability; and the estimated percentage excess over quota in the national milk intake for the months of April and May 1988.

Intake figures recently supplied to my Department by co-operatives and dairies, for the year ended 31 March 1988, show that the national quota was exceeded by about 2.5 million gallons. On this basis the national super-levy liability would be approximately £2.7 million.

However, these figures which have yet to be verified by the Department do not take account of any adjustments which will result from any increases in butter fat content or from any transfers to be made in respect of dual quota holders who do not fill their direct sales quotas.

Milk deliveries for the month of April 1988 are estimated to be about 4 per cent over the national quota. An estimate for May is not yet available but will be published in an advertisement in the national press by the fourth Thursday of this month. This is in line with the new arrangements for publishing milk delivery figures against quota that I announced recently.
