The number of Irish Draught and Irish Draught type mares registered in 1978, the last year in which the register contained both types of mare, was 1,246. The number of Irish Draught mares including Appendix Irish Draught on the register in 1987 was 748. Proposals are at present under consideration which will, I am confident, lead to an increase in numbers.
