Vol. 382 No. 9

Written Answers. - Mountjoy (Dublin) Prisoner.

50.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will consider authorising temporary release of a person (details supplied) serving a two year sentence in Mountjoy Prison, Dublin 7 and who, allowing for normal remission, would be due for release on 23 September 1989.

The person referred to by the Deputy was committed to prison on 25 March 1988 to serve a sentence of two years imprisonment imposed on him at Dublin Circuit Court following his conviction on charges of receiving stolen property.

I am not prepared, having regard to all the circumstances of this case, to grant temporary release to this person at this early stage of his sentence. However, since his committal to prison he has been allowed a number of escorted outings from the prison because of his particular domestic difficulties. The case is being kept under review.
